Why stop at Hummers since the Hummer 1 is going away anyway? Why not just run a hugely inefficient old style gas guzzler spewing black smoke from the tailpipe. You should take care to drive it down the freeway in full view of the commuter traffic.

I mean, if you're going to make a statement about how little you think of the planet you live on, you should make it a BIG statement.

If I want to drive a Hummer, and I am paying for the gas etc (regardless of current price), why is it anyone elses business to even suggest I change ?

If you also bought liability insurance to cover any future damages your behavior caused, I would not object. But paying for the gas only, without liability included in the current gas price is a bit of a problem.

I live along a river with a dyke on my property. The cost for me to dig a large hole through the dyke is pretty small, I could easily afford it. Should I tell my neighbors downstream that if I dig a hole through the dyke on my property, and pay for it myself, they should mind their own business? Same problem, just one is rather more immediate, and most people would agree on the cause/effect. Burning hydrocarbons and climate change are complex enough, that those who don't like to understand science can hide from responsibility.

No difference between driving a Hummer and a Ferrari, or Lambo'.. They each get about the same gas mileage.

And that is the crux of the problem.. People have a right to drive what they can afford to drive, so long as it meets environmental quality concerns.

Just like people have the right to live in big houses with open windoes that take up more electricity and natural gas.
