Iranians also know that, hard as it may be for latter-day Americans and Europeans to believe, from the 1870's to the 1920's Russia and Britain deprived Iran of even basic technology like the railroad, which was then a key to economic development. At various times, both powers jealously opposed a trans-Iranian railroad because they thought it would threaten their ever-expanding imperial frontiers. When it was finally built, the British, Russian (and American) occupying forces during the Second World War made full use of it (free of charge), calling Iran a "bridge of victory" over Nazi Germany. They did so, of course, after Winston Churchill forced the man who built the railroad, Reza Shah Pahlavi, to abdicate and unceremoniously kicked him out of the country.

See.......this is how it works. This is how America, the good, is really bad. It was a real wakeup call for me when I started doing research on the net. I found that this country has pulled so much merde in the past 100 years, it really floored me. How could we have such a noble picture of ourselves while perpetrating this BS in the world? And that's because we are very careful to keep such stuff out of our textbooks. And when you brought up stuff like you have in this post, it was quickly criticized by those on the right who have known forever, that America, the good, was not really so good; in fact, couldn't be because the world was such a big, bad place and dog eat dog that we had no choice but to leave our nice table manners at the borders. It is the same mindset that allowed officers of the German SS to do what they did and the USSR communists to do what they did.

If Al Gore had not invented the WWW.....sorry, assisted in the development of the WWW........we would never know about this crap. Oh there were congressional records reporting this for posterity but what American citizen had the time or inclination to go thru dusty old books looking this stuff up.

The same thing that is giving the current Congress a level of transparency its never had before is showing us what American behavior in the world and American history was really like. This new transparency makes little or no difference to the shortie's and harris's of the world.........they already knew or suspected that's what was happening. Its people like us who are getting a wakeup call. If I had $100 for every time someone in Europe said to me......I like Americans I just don't like your gov't......I would be retirement wealthy. Frankly, I had no idea what they meant...........from my perspective, we did wonderful things........save the world in WW 2; saved the world or rather S. Korea in 1952; tried to save SE Asia in the 1960s; protected Israel, etc. People told me that Europeans were jealous.......and I went with that explanation. Its only in the last 5 years that I've seen a whole new side of this country.

So nothing in this post comes as a surprise me except for the fact that no one has branded you treasonous for posting it. I guess that's some progress.

One last thing..........the author has a funny sounding, possibly Persian name.......so those who want to will discount the article as nothing more than Iranian propaganda. The problem for me though is that my professor in ME history pretty much alluded to the same thing but then he was originally from Palestinian.......another grinding axe.
