McCain is one of the least objectionable Repubs. At least he is relatively honest. He did call the smedarvets "dishonest and dishonrable". But backing Bush despite the fact McCain can't stand him and knows he's a crooked bastard, disqualified McCain from any democratic support.

Bushies called McCain "no hero, a coward, a traitor who aided the enemy in Vietnam, a homosexual, a sleazbag who slept with black hookers and fathered a bastard child.

That's how Bush won South Carolina and the GOP nomination, by having his Rovian religious right forces lie about McCain, a far better man than Bush, much more honest and courageous, a real patriot as opposed to a dishonest AWOL rich kid frontman for industrial special interests.
