Thank you, Shangrali and Jim Ludlow for these responses.

I will order the books. I have never attempted to spot spinoffs and make decisions based on that possibility.

I have had some very good spinoffs that happened-----and was of course most appreciative when they produced a spinoff that was sometimes more valuable than the parent company.

Recently, I have been thinking about consumer stocks that one can move into in this economic environment. I have ask what are the kinds of stocks that represent goods or services that people do not eliminate or that the very wealthy will use to stash their cash i.e. invest.

My thoughts wondered to personal care products, cosmetics, jewelry.

That led me to look at the SLE spinoff of Hanes------Hanes is more than a hosiery company with numerous brands that it sells mainly to women, so intuitively thinking that the spinoff could prove valuable.

However, as Jim mentioned-------check what the insiders are doing------did that today and the insiders have been selling for sometime on SLE. Thus, I ask why are they selling if there is going to be this nice spinoff.
