As I read it, the growth rate of the Israeli population was 6% in the early 90s, down to 3% in the late 90s and down to half that now. I think most of the very high growth rate was due to immigration.

Since the Israelis and people like Friedman appears to be worrying about demographics (I think Friedman said it's the biggest problem faced by the Israelis), I don't see much robust population growth in these trends.
