The tax must be calculated on a retail price. My price is discounted for being a loyal customer (I guess). My most recent purchase totaled $35.99 and tax was $3.47. That's a whopping 9.64%, far above the 7% +- taxes charged in Colorado. So that makes me think tax is on the retail value. Retail for these 2 items is $54.98, making the tax 6.3%, more in line with reality.

Still, while I dislike paying it, shipping is free and would be far more than the tax. Plus, I can't get these items anywhere in my area that I know of.
