Most short term freezing is due to harddisk activity, not CPU load. It would make more sense to put two harddisks into the machine than two processor cores ;)

Dan3, I guess that would explain the need for only single core for just general office like environments...I can't tell you how many times I wish I had a dual core at home...maybe when applications are written for dual core it will become more apparent...I'm running xp 64 trial version on just an a64 3000+ and it performs quite well for interneting and basic office tasks...what I don't get are all these setups with dual and quad video card setups...seems like a waste of time to me....that's probably why Nvidia is taking a hit in price because with Conroe most people will only need one high quality video card...

Dan, for running machine tools etc Real Time Linux is available. RT Linux is not going to be popular for the desktop. I only wonder how similar things are done on windows, more likely DOS. Getting off topic..
