Japan is the nation they are today because the US saved them from oligarchy. Provided them with access to the huge American market, and the US benefitted from the cheap labor of Japan. It was beneficial to us until Japan entered into heavy industries and knocked off the big three auto makers. But remember Japan was built on bad bank loans and low overhead. The government had no defense budget, relying entirely on the US for defense. The playing field was not level at all.

It did allow for some super rich Japanese business men to emerge...and survive the crash. But the common man in Japan has been hurt badly.

Look what happened now, with the collapse of the yen and the bad loans. Japan's economy is stalled and their markets collapsed.

I'd say they lost the recent battles in the war of business.
