""...and took the testicles away from the OPP has yet to be settled.""
Aaahhh, the testicles,...being right of Atilla The Hun is no solution...look around the world and see what that brings. It brings conflict and civil war that goes on for decades.I liked that news clip from Ipperwash years ago where the young native guy was out of control screaming in the face of the young Canadian soldier..the young soldier did not react, because of his training and stood his ground knowing full well he could have turned the native guy into a pretzel if he chose to.

Actually that picture was at OKA the skirmish before Ipperwash. I am struggling with the idea that we found 2 million dollars to send to Indonesia in a matter of hours. OTOH because of the lack of direction in our Federal Government it takes up to 30 years to settle a land claim with the First nations, but Sometimes only 10 years. Why is it our Government builds power systems in Haiti, but cannot competently handle the land Claims? Why isn't Ipperwash settled yet? Why do both the Canadian and the First Nations property owners near Ipperwash not have a clear understanding of who owns what, years and years after Dudley George Died?

Why is it that our Federal Government is focussing on Street Racing rather than the far more serious problem that First nations are starting to take them to world court to try to force some form of Settlement? Why do both the provincial and federal government feel that Natives holding the people of Caledonia hostage is acceptable while they indulge in a lethargic process that does little to further the aims of either the First Nations or the People of Canada? Why are the needs of the tax payers subordinate to the photo ops of the politicians. Why was the minister of Native Affairs in hiding for the entire standoff? Obviously this predated the election, why not simply blame the Liberals, and have the Minister and the Prime Minister go to the table and start dealing face to face, instead of leaving the affair in the barely competent hands of David Peterson. Why do they parade Canada as this glorious democracy, while demeaning, degrading and forcing First nations to live in conditions Canadians would loudly object to in any other country. If Apartheid was wrong in South Africa and Canadians boycotted South Africa for it, why shouldn't Canadians clean up the Apartheid like mess in their own house before one more Canadian leader takes to the World Stage in sanctimonious preening about what fair and equal conditions exist in our country. It is a bucket of merde, and it is time we admitted it.

gg,
We have been having a free ride on the back of our American neighbour for our protection. I'm assuming that you mean since WWII since this was certainly not the case in either of WWI or WWII. Beyond that I concur with you free ride assessment.

The cute and cuddly ignored one :O)
