And those Iraqi "clowns" stood up to the greatest superpower on earth and their actions will play a major part in how the situation will eventually resolve. The overriding lesson of modern war is that our military can overrun almost any country in a matter of weeks, but we cannot deal with a determined insurgency. We could do the latter, if we were willing to be very brutal. That is the stark reality. Islamic insurgents would place in the bottom quartile of effectiveness I'm pretty sure, given they are so willing to die. Pick any metric you like, they are pretty poor.
