Posted: 28-MAY-2006 4:19pm EDT

Discussion by Meteorologist Alan Reppert

With Tropical Storm Aletta meandering offshore, a Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the south-central Pacific coast of Mexico from Punta Maldonado westward to Tecpan de Galeana, while a Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for the Pacific coast of Mexico from east of Punta Maldonado eastward to Puerto Escondido and from west of Tecpan de Galeana westward to Zihuatanejo.

As of 11:00pm PDT, Tropical Storm Aletta was located at 15.6 north and 101.0 west or about 115 southwest of Acapulco, Mexico; the storm has drifted westward over the past few hours and will continue to move erratically during the day. Aletta has maximum sustained winds of 45 mph with gusts to 60 mph; tropical storm force winds extend 60 miles away from the storm's center. The central minimum pressure is estimated to be 1002 mb or 29.59 inches.

Aletta is expected to slowly drift to the north over the next 24-36 hours, bringing the storm very close to the Mexico coastline. Parts of mexico could see over 4 inches of rain with this storm before it slowly moves off to the west in the next several days
