1) Morales by nationalizing gas, gave more impetus to kick start biodiesel ahead of schedule.

2) Soy beans sector is in crisis here. Prices skyrocketed 2004. They loaned a lot of money and extended the area planted. 2005: Prices plummeted, a draught cut the harvest and the Real increased against the USD. Many farmers facing bankruptcy. They're asking the government for help. Government want to divert soy beans to make biodiesel rather than export. Brazil has several advantages over U.S. agriculture, including inexpensive land, cheap labor and cheaper machinery.
