Kennedy had only a small advisors groups in Vietnam, about 16,000 in all, no big bases, just hands-on counter-insurgency training. It worked. The Green Berets, who JFK formed, did a marvelous job of training locals to fend off the communists from the north. JFK had nothing to do with what would soon become the big Halliburton-LBJ-Bush-Cheney style build-up based on the big lie at the Gulf Of Tonkin. In fact, some people say JFK was killed because he was going to end the presence in Vietnam entire, and that makes sense, though JFK and RFK were also trying to take down J.Edgar Hoover and the mob. SO it's likely different evil-minded interest groups got together for that assassination.
