<<I took 100MG dosages daily of Prednisone for over a year. Got cataracts in both eyes and had to replace them with plastic lens. >>

One of the drops I'm using 4 times a day for a week has Prednisone in it. A friend had the lens implant and developed a cataract on it. They lasered it off so fast he was still waiting for them to start.

What got me was how fast the procedure is. They put a towel over my face that had a plastic section. The Dr. said he was cutting a hole in the plastic and a few seconds later said I was done. He said after doing a few thousand implants he had it down pretty good.

This details the operation.

Wow, that IS a lot of prednisone!

Prednisone can save lives but the side effects can be truly terrible. I know a man who had to have both hips replaced because the prednisone caused bone thinning -- his Dr. didn't tell him to take calcium supplements.

I keep a bottle of 10s in my medicine chest -- when my rheumatoid arthritis gets too bad I take one, once in a great while, maybe two, maybe a day or maybe 3, and the weight jumps right to my face and hips.

Makes the pain in the joints go away, though.

I say "taking prednisone is like making a deal with the devil -- you can't win." But the tradeoffs can be worth it, especially over the short run.
