"AS is not smart enough to just stay with the truth. He is like John Kerry...they always need to embelish the facts,,,"

IMO, that was the basic problem with Kerry's whole campaign. He tried to make a big deal out of being a war hero in an unpopular war. He tried to emulate the Kennedy PT-109 thing. Trouble is it was a different war and.....John Kerry was no Jack Kennedy...to paraphrase Llyod Bentsen.

It is positively bizarre.

A very strong and credible anti-Bush argument could be made by focusing on real flaws and weaknesses in his positions; in the promotion of positive alternatives. Why that is never tried on SI I don't know. It is frequently suggested that some of these guys are Republican plants paid to make the right wing look good, by representing the leftwing with doltish comments and insane arguments. The longer I read these threads, the more that explanation is starting to make sense. They certainly drive away decent, rational, liberal thinking people.
