I think their little Video and Infrared camera drones have a lot of potential, but I've got some reservations about their spherical balloons due to "..winds aloft.." issues.

At 20,000' you can have a pretty stiff W-to-E prevailing breeze, at 70,000' that can be a 100+mph jetstream flow. I typically cruised at between 8500' to 13500' in my Mooney Chaparral which would crank along at 180mph at a 75% power setting. On one occasion going from Iowa to NC, I was making 250+mph over the ground with a tailwind. On another occasion, I ran pretty low on fuel between eastern NC and Atlanta due to extremely high headwinds. Normally eastern NC to Birmingham, AL was no big deal- with plenty of fuel to spare. A big round ballon would have ended up in Bermuda under those wind conditions..!!!

I think a call to whoever is still running Goodyear's blimp operations to see what their thoughts were would be a very good idea.
