...So long as national political campaigns can either ignore it or use the mantra that the "science is unclear" or "there is no consensus"...

Global warming is one of those longer wave things that has happened throughout human history where one will just have to wait for the bent back "conservatives" who oppose the very idea to die off of natural causes. They'll all eventually pass away peacefully in their sleep, secure in the knowledge that "they were right all along", and future generations will get to clean up the mess that they did everything in their power to prevent anyone from lifting a finger to do anything about while they were alive.

All one has to do is look at, say, coming around to the fact that cigarette smoking is harmful to health, or that high fat diets coupled with lack of exercise lead to heart disease. Or social progress like ending segregation. Or earlier on, that the world was not the center of the universe. Same BS spin and jive, why should anyone expect anything new this time ?

It never changes, and dealing with the coupled problems of global warming and dwindling supplies of oil will be no different.
