The truly sad part is if we changed the headline:

"Soldier finds winning lottery ticket"

to:

"Ex-Con finds winning lottery ticket"

it would make national news.

I used to be a supporter of Amnesty......didn't know that the right to an abortion was considered a "human right":

Amnesty International Canada Approves Abortion Advocacy
LifeSiteNews ^ | 31 May 2006 | John-Henry Westen

WINNIPEG, May 30, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Amnesty International's Canadian branch voted at its annual general meeting over the weekend to have the organization move into abortion advocacy. A controversial proposal by the international headquarters of the group was sent out to the regional branches of the organization last year asking if they should begin advocating for a global right to abortion.

Some pro-life Amnesty International members in Canada have expressed regret at the decision and have said they are no longer supporting the organization. One long-time member emailed LifeSiteNews.com to say she had transferred her regular monthly donation from Amnesty International to LifeSiteNews.com.

The news of Amnesty's consideration of abortion advocacy garnered warnings from religious groups that such a move would tarnish the respected organizations reputation and force people of faith to stop supporting it. Noted human rights defender and Calgary Bishop Fred Henry, in an interview with LifeSiteNews.com earlier this month called the move "an ill-conceived and gross betrayal of their mission to campaign for human rights." The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada, the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Indian Bishops Conference have all similarly condemned the move. (coverage: lifesite.net

Despite the warnings and concerns even among its membership, it appears the international organization will approve abortion advocacy at its final decision making meeting next year. Thus far Amnesty branches in the UK, New Zealand and Canada have all approved the controversial suggestion.

Australian baby 'put in dryer'

An Australian man has been charged with causing bodily harm after he put a 13-month-old baby in a tumble dryer when she spilt a drink on herself.

Samuel Siddall, 21, was left in charge of his girlfriend's baby while she went to the gym for an hour, police said.

She returned to find the baby had suffered serious burns. Doctors notified police because of the suspicious nature of her injuries.

They expect the baby to make a full recovery and leave hospital this week.

'Horrific injuries'

"The injuries are horrific and in my years of being a police officer I have not seen or heard of this type of injury before," police detective Deb Newman told reporters.

"The person we allege has done the act has stated that he has put the child into a clothes tumble dryer, closed the door and turned it on for a couple of minutes," she said.

Police said the child suffered serious burns to both feet and her left hand as well as bruising to her face and back.

Mr Siddall, 21, was released on bail and told to reappear in court in June. He was also forbidden to contact the child's mother.
