And while I agree with you on this completely, I wanted to point out that when a theory is so widely respected by distinguished people such as you named, it is very likely that it is on to something...now we have global warming and environmentalism. It has near unanimous acceptance in the scientific community, barring few outliers. Nobody has managed to refute the dominant global warming theory. But a few argue that an alternate theory *may* be correct. In any other circumstance you'd act on the dominant view. For example if visit 10 doctors and all of them tell you to schedule surgery now before you die of heart attack and the 11th tells you that may be you should wait until better drugs are developed, you will schedule the surgery...but nooo the politicization of global warming means we have to have unanimity at all costs!

How come Hawk and his ilk were not so demanding on proof when it comes to bombing another nation? How come I don't see them have a real plan, even if it is based on their own off the field ideas? What all their arguments boils down to is a do-nothing stall tactics...and that is a politicization of science.
