Of course everything said is opinion.

Any "limitations on interpretation" were offered by both sides---or perhaps I should say, all sides---to the discussion. However, I get the feeling you are directing your comments only to me, for some reason.

My Magic 8 ball post was intended to be light and was in response to a "nice try" post.

So what's your interpretation of the speech?

The L3 view wasn't convincing to me. I don't know if you read all this chat from Elutheria's first post. My intent was to show that the president did not, did not use the words which some posters assigned to him.

His speech was articulate. He told us it will be a long fight. He told us, "...the mission continues..." He did not tell us the troops were on their way home.

The Admiral was proudly reporting to his troops that they had completed a very successful tour in the Gulf. What can possibly be wrong with boasting about their achievements?

What the president did to hype his image and show support for the military was little different than any of his predecessors have done during war time. Apparently, this is bad policy now since George W. Bush did it.

The problem I have with this discussion today is that those who can't stand the president or his policies have elected to color their logic on this topic. No one could produce for me the words mission accomplished in his speech, only the innuendo and who created the banner.

AFAIC, his trip to the carrier was a good move at the time, if for no other reason, than to enhance troop morale.

This may not help you either.

I'm through with the topic.
