It would have been less destructive to man made structures- but it still would have been more powerful than average, and larger than average- and plenty of scientists are speculating that global warming, contributing to warmer seas, has a part to play in the size and strength of hurricanes including Katrina.

I'm not sure how that is absurd. Obviously you think it is, but I don't see how you've proved it is.
