I must have missed the 50% part. Still 7,000 employees is pretty hefty reduction in staff.

I mention it because if ATI were to be bought by anybody I would expect them to face a similar fate eventually.

I doubt that. Seagate / Maxtor acquisition was primarily an elimitation of a competitor. Overlap is such that vast majority of Maxtor was instantly redundant.

If there was ATI or NVDA / AMD merger, the overlap is minimal.
