But there is a lot of new information out about cell architecture, especially the cell membrane and signal transduction, as I mentioned :


Cells are marvelous machines, but with the exception of the small variations I have mentioned they are a static construction based on the blueprint in their genes. They may express different aspects of their bag of tricks in response to the environment but they aren't learning anything that wasn't already in their DNA to begin with.

After 4 billion years that bag of tricks is pretty good, and with sexual recombination there are new variations on old themes all the time, but they are found in the next generation.
