I think that unless having its hand forced on the issue by an imminent Intel acquisition of either Nvidia or Ati (for which I cannot imagine regulatory approval), AMD will fare better by co-operating with the two instead of acquiring/merging.

It provides higher product flexibility, limits the distractions from their core business of making CPUs and simply creates better karma with the customers. Don't underestimate the appeal of being "the good guys" vs. being forced to select between two evil platform empires. It increases survivability if those who feed you actually CARE whether you live or die ;)

I think AMD/ATYT would be a huge setback for the push into the corporate market.
To do this would destroy all the effort AMD did with NVDA to enter the corporate market (Stable Image Platform ect.). On the other hand, if Intel grabs NVDA,
I think AMD has to take ATI not to be at risk to fall back into the old days (K6, K7) in regards to chipset supply.

Best thing by far would be if all stays as it is now with ATI and NVDA as independent companys.
