Don't you just "love it" - the "market" takes off a little after 2pm ET today and here is the reason according to Briefing.com

Absent a catalyst all afternoon, a renewed wave of buying interest spearheaded by a surge in semiconductor now has the market at fresh session highs. Chip stocks have gotten a recent boost after Advanced Micro Devices (AMD 31.22 +0.33) said it aims to supply a third of chip market by 2008, up from about 21%. Seventeen of 19 components on the PHLX Semi Index are trading higher.>>

Did the market for chips expand - no.

Are the 17 of 19 SOX stocks going to make more money - no.

Is INTC going to make less money - yes.

Is their going to be a big shift in money made by the SOX stocks - no.

Is the market for chips stocks going to increase because AMD will gain market share and INTC will lose market share - no.

I could go on and on, but everyone gets the picture.

I think this whole process today just goes to show how bad off this market really is - it's action is really just Brownian motion.
