The ideal solution, IMO, would be a high speed SC chips and the cheapest SC chip for the second socket. To enable this would require AMD not to cripple this whole thing so that it is limited only to $1000 Athlon DC FX chips.

I strongly doubt AMD marketing guys would stand for anything as logical as this. I think their thiking is as follows: What would Intel as a monopolist do to segment the living hell out of this? Let's do what we think Intel would do in a position as a monopolist.
