If K8L turns out as modelled it will come out as one class Server processor which will just destroy the MP fsb versions of Core 2, Tigerton etc. This is why Dell has hooked a ride on the good ship AMD. I really like the balanced, size multiplying factor of 4, L1/L2/L3 approach and 4-8 HT links which will produce good scaling all round in all cases. A big fat shared L2 while great for single thread performance is just asking for trouble in real life heavy duty server usage in extreme corner cases and that's a weakness that the Risc encumbents share too.
