No, the Chinese should not stay poor, however American companies who have taken their jobs to China and do not provide life-sustaining wages, clean & safe working conditions and any benefits whatsoever to their employees, are merely greedy individuals. It's difficult to respect them. Those business people can try to paint a pretty face on their hasty retreat to the 3rd world once their lives were no longer in danger. It's obvious they're merely taking advantage of the slave wages & working conditions of the 3rd world to enrich themselves. The most important reason why American Capitalizers in China are pitifully character flawed is because they are in no way protecting the environment. It's all about the capitalizers desire to get as personally wealthy as possible, while their Chinese & Mexican workers can live in polluted environments--their former American employees can slide into 3rd world poverty as well. Don't give me any Adam Smith baloney....his theories are so obsolete it's ridiculous. Anyone who tries to use Smith's theories from the 18th century in the global economy of the 21st century...is completely lacking all "common sense."
