AMD's response, sure. We will allow you to attach the coprocessor of your choice. We can add it as a SB connected CP, CP embedded into the SB, CP HT tunnel, CP embedded into the NB, CP connected via hot plug HTX slot, CP into socket AM2, CP into socket F or CP on CPU die, your choice of method. Which way do you want to go?

This will be a fundamental change in the market, it should be happy time for Silicon Valley startups. We'll be back to the days where PC makers can differentiate based on engineering. Remember back in the 80's when there were 15-20 different PC manufacturers. For the last 15 years we've been in a commoditization / consolidation trend. Intc controlled the ecosystem and you could only compete on supply chain / cost, service and Intc kickbacks.

What happens when the only competitive ProE or Video Editing systems are based on custom coprocessors. Intc could lose the entire workstation market just like they're losing blades and 4S servers. The ISV's have an incentive to encourage the trend because they can sell their own accelerators (with maintenance plans) along with the software.
