The larger point was that Americans did do such things in WWII (not as a normal mode of operations but they did happen). If O'Reilly was wrong about some specific situation, than it probably was an honest mistake. If he knew he was wrong about that situation, he probably could have found another one (like the Dachau massacre) to use to make his point, so there was really no incentive to lie.

This isn't about the Dachau massacre, O'Reilly was using another one that starts with an M. And he was totally wrong about it.
