95% of our soldiers are fine pros, but the worst the situations you put them in, the more atrocities there will be. And also, recruiting standards have now been lowered to allow in nut cases and those with criminal records. Also, look at Abu graib. This is not some kind of weird isolated case. In the book "Generation Kill", the writer describes gunners in his platoon mowing down Iraqis watching them and waving along the roadside for no reason other than they didn't know who was friendly or not, so WTF just kill them all. That was during the invasion.
