If nothing else AS is a little like a pinata.

Everyone gets a chance to whack the stuffing out of it & we get to share in the goodies, though in this case it's the choice morsels the whackers provide.

Kerry volunteered for combat and served two tours of duty. He could have used a multitude of tricks like Bush and Cheney and Delay did to avoid the draft, but he was ready to serve his country.

How could Kerry have dodged it? Easy. He had very powerful friends including the Kennedy family and more. His mother was a Forbes cousin (though not a moneyed one). He was a Yalie. All it would have taken were a few phonecalls.

The dirty secret of the 60's was that no rich or well-connected person needed to be drafted if he wanted to try and get out of it. Only the poor and workingclass had to go if they selected.

Read awolbush.com and you'll see the original document where Kerry specifically volunteered for COMBAT as a swiftboatsman or another combat assignment. He could have easily asked for a desk job or done what GW did and used family contacts to keep him 5000 miles from harm's way.

You'll also see the original document showing Bush specifically did not want to go to Vietnam. But that has never been in question. Bush actively evaded both the draft and finishing his Guard duty. He still owes the Guard two years, but since he's a Bush they let him go to Harvard and avoid the mandatory drug test. All records for the eight months when Bush disappeared have been destroyed or otherwise mysteriously disappeared.
