1) “We have a strategy drawn up for the destruction of Anglo-Saxon civilization….”

Taking Iran At Its Word

By Steven Stalinsky

Reprinted from The Jerusalem Post (August 30, 2004)

There are growing indications that Iran may
be planning an attack on American soil.
These indicators are not secret -they
appear in speeches, newspaper articles, T V
programs, and sermons in Iran by figures linked to
Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and other
government officials. All discuss potential Iranian
attacks on the US, which will subsequently lead to
its destruction.

A report on May 28 in Al-Sharq Al-Awsat
reported that an Iranian intelligence unit has
established a center called “The Brigades of the
Shahids of the Global Islamic Awakening.” The
paper claimed it had obtained a tape with a speech
by Hassan Abbassi, a Revolutionary Guards
intelligence theoretician who teaches at A l -
Hussein University. In the tape, Abbassi spoke of
Teheran’s secret plans, which include “a strategy
drawn up for the destruction of Anglo-Saxon
civilization.”

In order to accomplish this, he explained, “there
are 29 sensitive sites in the US and in the West.
We have already spied on these sites, and we
know how we are going to attack them.”

It was reported that the US had expelled two
Iranian security guards employed by Teheran’s
UN offices on June 29, after the mission was
repeatedly warned against allowing its guards to
videotape bridges, the Statue of Liberty and New
York’s subway.

This was the third time the Iranians had been
caught in activities which could be connected to
plans to attack the US.

Abbassi’s speech further detailed that “[Iran’s]

missiles are now ready to strike at their
civilization, and as soon as the instructions arrive
from Leader [Ali Khamenei], we will launch our
missiles at their cities and installations.”

In fact, over the past few months Khamenei has
been vocal about the impending “destruction of
the US.” In May he was quoted in the Iranian
paper Jomhouri-Ye Eslami as stating that “the
world will witness the annihilation of this arrogant
regime.”

On July 5, in front of a crowd chanting “Woe to
the enemy if Khamenei commands me to wage
Jihad,” Khamenei said: “If someone harms our
people and invades our country, we will endanger
his interests anywhere in the world.”

Other Iranian religious leaders have also called
for the destruction of the US.

Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati, secretary-general of
the Guardian Council, appeared on Iran’s Channel
1 TVon June 4, stating, “Every Muslim and every
honorable man who is not a Muslim must stand
against the Americans, English, and Israelis and
endanger their interests wherever they may be.”

When he added “They must not have security,”
thousands in the audience repeated chants of
“Islam is victorious, America will be annihilated.”

On June 25, Jannati also led prayers and
promised, “Anyone who confronted the
revolution, the Imam [Khomeini], and our
dedicated people eventually collapsed. America is
the last one, and, Allah willing, it will collapse....”

The following week Ayatollah Mohammad
Emami-Kashani delivered the Friday sermon live
on Channel 1 stating that the US would collapse

like Genghis Khan’s empire: “I say to you, the
American people you will collapse, America will
collapse.”

“Time-bombs within America” is how Iranian
MP Hamid-Reza Katoziyan described Muslims
within the US, who could be behind future
terrorist attacks on America.

Speaking on Iranian TV channel Jaam-E-Jam 2
on July 27, Katoziyan warned: “The whole group
of people belonging to the Arab community and
Muslims living in the US are currently, in my
opinion, in a special situation. Perhaps they do not
walk the streets with weapons in their hands or
attach bombs to themselves in order to carry out a
suicide operation, but the thought is there.”

Just as statements from Iranian religious and
political leaders, as well as TV programs, have
focused on attacking the US, so has the print
media. An editorial in the July 6 edition of the
Iranian daily K a y h a n, the conservative paper
affiliated with Khamenei, issued another warning
for the future:

“ The White House’s 80 years of exclusive rule
are likely to become 80 seconds of Hell that will
burn to ashes. That very day, those who resist
[Iran] will be struck from directions they never
expected. The heartbeat of the crisis is
undoubtedly [dictated by] the hand of Iran.”

The report by the 9-11 Commission asks:
“September 11 was a day of unprecedented shock
The nation was unprepared How can we avoid
such tragedy again?”

Taking Iran’s threatening words and actions
seriously is an important step. s

2) "death to America."

Iranian Leader, Khamenei: We Don't Need An Atomic Bomb. We've Been Defeating America For 25 Years Without It

Following are excerpts from a speech by Iranian leader Ali Khamenei, that was broadcast by Iranian channel, Jaam-e-Jam2:
Khamenei: Regarding the last (nuclear) issue, they created a large commotion against the Islamic Republic. The enemies of Iran ? led by the most despicable of all, the US government ? saw the nuclear issue as an excuse to apply pressure on Iran so they could repay the grudge accumulated as a result of the Islamic revolution which cut America's hand off of Iran. Then, they opened their filthy mouths and said whatever came to mind. The people who are infamous around the world for their trickery, falsehood, and fraud, have accused Iran of deception and telling lies. The people whose evil and hostility towards the human race are as plain as day, and everyone sees this in the various arenas, accused Iran of violating human rights, while they appear as the defenders of human rights.
We have no need for a nuclear bomb. We have overcome our enemies so far, without the nuclear bomb. The Iranian people has been defeating America for the past 25 years, is it not so? America has been defeated by the Iranian people during the past 25 years. What has it been defeated with? have we defeated America using a nuclear bomb, or by our determination, will, faith, and awareness? The world of Islam has been mobilized against America for the past 25 years.
The peoples call, "death to America." Who used to say "death to America?" Who, besides the Islamic Republic and the Iranian people, used to say this? Today, everyone says this. We did not progress by means of the atomic bomb. Victory in the grand, historic, and eternal arenas is not achieved by means of these weapons. If they had the oil and we were in need of it, I said this once, in the past, that they would sell us a bottle of oil for the price of their father and mother. Clearly, they do not want us to produce anything. They wish that even our food we get from them, provided we have money to give them. And when no more (money) is left, then let the people die of starvation. They have no problem with that. They kill thousands. They do not care about the deaths of thousands and millions.

3) "One day the US too will be History."

Iranian Leader: 'The Source of Human Torment and Suffering is Liberal Democracy'; Iranian President: 'The Root of All Terrorist Activity is the Violence of the Superpowers'
Recently, several high-ranking Iranian leaders, among them Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and President Muhammad Khatami, expressed views on the achievements of Iran's Islamic Revolution and the legacy of Ayatollah Ruholla Khomeini, and on the relationship between Islam and Western culture and values. Both men attacked the U.S. for its handling of affairs in Iraq. Along with stressing the need to instill Ayatollah Khomeini's legacy among the younger Iranians who never knew him, Iranian Leader Ali Khameneistated that not only is Khomeini's political thought appropriate for all of humanity's needs, but that the source of human suffering is "liberal democracy." Khamenei attacked the U.S. and stated that the reason for the "disgrace" (that is, the abuse of prisoners at Abu Ghureib prison) was that "liberal democracy is devoid of morality." In contrast, Iranian President Muhammad Khatamiexpressed his support for borrowing from Western values and blending them into Islamic culture. At the same time, however, Khatami stated that the root of all terrorism is superpower violence.
The following are statements by these high-ranking Iranian leaders, as well as by Iranian Culture and Guidance Minister Ahmad Masjid-Jama'i:
Khamenei: 'Liberal Democracy is Devoid of Morality'
In an address to the organizers of the annual ceremony commemorating the 1989 death of Ayatollah Ruholla Khomeini, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said that "[Ayatollah Khomeini's] thought corresponded to the Islamic political thought, which he defined as the pure Islam of the Prophet Muhammad." Khamenei stressed the need for instilling Khomeini's doctrine in the coming generations, and said, "Loving the Imam Khomeini without understanding his political thought is inconceivable… Despite the propaganda [against Khomeini's thought by his opponents], his political thought is appropriate to humanity's primary needs, because the source of all human torment and suffering is the 'liberal democracy' promoted by the West as 'progressive political thought.'
"The torment of the Iraqis, of the Palestinians, and even of the Americans are the direct outcome of liberal Western democracy, and this must serve as an important lesson to the rest of the world, [which must] open its eyes and understand that those who call themselves advocates of human rights and democracy are in fact the main supporters of crimes against humanity… The reason for [this] disgrace [i.e. Abu Ghureib] is [the fact that] liberal democracy is devoid of morality, while the political thought of Imam Khomeini respected morality in addition to democracy, and at the same time pinned its hopes on God." [1]
Khatami: 'Islam Encourages Emulating Others Without Losing Islamic Identity… We Can Use the Concepts of the West'
At the International Conference on the Islamic Republic and Future Outlook, held in Tehran, Iranian President Muhammad Khatamisaid, "Islam encourages people to emulate others without losing their Islamic identity. Thus, we can make use of the achievements of the West, and overcome our shortcomings in various areas…" He added, "We must defend the principle of democracy, which is one of the goals of the Islamic Revolution. This is because defending Islam does not mean rejecting democracy and freedom." [2]
Unlike Khatami, who spoke in favor or borrowing Western values and integrating them into Islamic culture, Iranian Culture and Guidance Minister Ahmad Masjid-Jama'i said, also at the conference, that "the Islamic Republic regime is a great political phenomenon of the contemporary world, and a living example of the defeat of Western methods and ideas."
Masjid-Jama'i: 'Islamism is the Core of the Iranian Revolution'
Masjid-Jama'i added, "The [Islamic] Revolution took place at a time when it was thought that all the countries in the region were going through a similar phase and in line with the historic changes in the Western world. Based on such a vision, it was speculated that acceptance of modern Western values and abandonment of traditional beliefs would ultimately pave the ground for injecting modern Western methods into the East…
"Many researchers are of the opinion that Islamism is the core of the Iranian revolution, and not just a slogan, because it has a profound influence on the overall framework of the revolution… The Islamic Revolution is a front-runner for many other social and political movements in the world, an international current that aims to safeguard and preserve national identity and tradition based on culture. That is why today Islam is needed, because it is a well-built pillar that strongly safeguards and preserves the national identity and nobility." [3]
'One Day the U.S. Too Will Be History'
Iranian Leader Ali Khameneisaid that the U.S. is contemptuous of Islam and the sensitivities of the Muslims "because the Americans are convinced that they will easily win the war in Iraq. But they will not see that day. As the Imam [Khomeini] said, 'One day the U.S. too will be history.' In light of what happened in Iraq, we can see now that he is right, because such events move the U.S. down the slope, and they will taste the bitterness of sure defeat." [4]
Khamenei condemned the "desecration being carried out by the Americans in the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala in Iraq," and said, "the Muslims will not continue to remain silent in the face of such aggression." [5]
Iranian President Muhammad Khatamisaid, "We condemn all forms of violence, but we must understand that the roots of all terrorist activity lie in the violence of the superpowers… It is regrettable that they accuse the [Islamic] religion, civilization, and culture of violence and narrow-mindedness. Nevertheless, I do not deny that there are radicals among the Muslims, or other people in other societies, who act only by violent means. But it must be understood that the spirit of Islam does not preach violence." [6]

4) " world without America … this slogan and goal can be achieved.”</

Iranian President at Tehran Conference: 'Very Soon, This Stain of Disgrace [i.e. Israel] Will Be Purged From the Center of the Islamic World – and This is Attainable'

In advance of Iran's Jerusalem Day, which was established by Ayatollah Khomeini and is marked annually on the fourth Friday of the month of Ramadan, the "World without Zionism" conference was held in Tehran.

At the conference, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad spoke to the representatives of Hamas and Islamic Jihad, members of the Society for the Defense of the Palestinian Nation, and members of the Islamic Students Union, and an audience of hundreds of students.

In his speech, he described his vision of an age-old confrontation between the world of Islam and the "World of Arrogance," i.e. the West; he portrayed Israel and Zionism as the spearhead of the West against the Islamic nation; and he emphasized the need to eliminate Israel – which, he claimed, was a goal that was attainable.

Speeches were also delivered by representatives of Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah and Hamas leader Khaled Mash'al.

The Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA), published the full text of Ahmadinejad's speech. The following is a translation of excerpts from ISNA's report and from the speech. [1]

"Prior to his statement, Ahmadinejad said that if you plan to chant the slogan 'Death to Israel,' say it in the right and complete way.

"The president warned the leaders of the Islamic world that they should be wary of Fitna [civil strife]: 'If someone is under the pressure of hegemonic power [i.e. the West] and misunderstands something is wrong, or he is naïve, or he is an egotist and his hedonism leads him to recognize the Zionist regime – he should know that he will burn in the fire of the Islamic Ummah [nation]…'

"Ahmadinejad articulated the real meaning of Zionism: '...We must see what the real story of Palestine is... The establishment of the regime that is occupying Jerusalem was a very grave move by the hegemonic and arrogant system [i.e. the West] against the Islamic world. We are in the process of an historical war between the World of Arrogance [i.e. the West] and the Islamic world, and this war has been going on for hundreds of years.

"'In this historical war, the situation at the fronts has changed many times. During some periods, the Muslims were the victors and were very active, and looked forward, and the World of Arrogance was in retreat.

"'Unfortunately, in the past 300 years, the Islamic world has been in retreat vis-à-vis the World of Arrogance… During the period of the last 100 years, the [walls of the] world of Islam were destroyed and the World of Arrogance turned the regime occupying Jerusalem into a bridge for its dominance over the Islamic world...

"'This occupying country [i.e. Israel] is in fact a front of the World of Arrogance in the heart of the Islamic world. They have in fact built a bastion [Israel] from which they can expand their rule to the entire Islamic world... This means that the current war in Palestine is the front line of the Islamic world against the World of Arrogance, and will determine the fate of Palestine for centuries to come.

"'Today the Palestinian nation stands against the hegemonic system as the representative of the Islamic Ummah [nation]. Thanks to God, since the Palestinian people adopted the Islamic war and the Islamic goals, and since their struggle has become Islamic in its attitude and orientation, we have been witnessing the progress and success of the Palestinian people.'

"Ahmadinejad said: 'The issue of this [World without Zionism] conference is very valuable. In this very grave war, many people are trying to scatter grains of desperation and hopelessness regarding the struggle between the Islamic world and the front of the infidels, and in their hearts they want to empty the Islamic world.

"'... They [ask]: 'Is it possible for us to witness a world without America and Zionism?' But you had best know that this slogan and this goal are attainable, and surely can be achieved…

"'When the dear Imam [Khomeini] said that [the Shah's] regime must go, and that we demand a world without dependent governments, many people who claimed to have political and other knowledge [asked], 'Is it possible [that the Shah’s regime can be toppled]?'

"'That day, when Imam [Khomeini] began his movement, all the powers supported [the Shah's] corrupt regime… and said it was not possible. However, our nation stood firm, and by now we have, for 27 years, been living without a government dependent on America. Imam [Khomeni] said: 'The rule of the East [U.S.S.R.] and of the West [U.S.] should be ended.' But the weak people who saw only the tiny world near them did not believe it.

"'Nobody believed that we would one day witness the collapse of the Eastern Imperialism [i.e. the U.S.S.R], and said it was an iron regime. But in our short lifetime we have witnessed how this regime collapsed in such a way that we must look for it in libraries, and we can find no literature about it.

"'Imam [Khomeini] said that Saddam [Hussein] must go, and that he would be humiliated in a way that was unprecedented. And what do you see today? A man who, 10 years ago, spoke as proudly as if he would live for eternity is today chained by the feet, and is now being tried in his own country...

"'Imam [Khomeini] said: 'This regime that is occupying Qods [Jerusalem] must be eliminated from the pages of history.' This sentence is very wise. The issue of Palestine is not an issue on which we can compromise.

"'Is it possible that an [Islamic] front allows another front [i.e. country] to arise in its [own] heart? This means defeat, and he who accepts the existence of this regime [i.e. Israel] in fact signs the defeat of the Islamic world.

"'In his battle against the World of Arrogance, our dear Imam [Khomeini] set the regime occupying Qods [Jerusalem] as the target of his fight.

"'I do not doubt that the new wave which has begun in our dear Palestine and which today we are also witnessing in the Islamic world is a wave of morality which has spread all over the Islamic world. Very soon, this stain of disgrace [i.e. Israel] will be purged from the center of the Islamic world – and this is attainable.

"'But we must be wary of Fitna. For more than 50 years, the World of Arrogance has tried to give recognition to the existence of this falsified regime [Israel]. With its first steps, and then with further steps, it has tried hard in this direction to stabilize it.

"'Regrettably, 27 or 28 years ago... one of the countries of the first line [i.e. Egypt] made this failure [of recognizing Israel] – and we still hope that they will correct it.

"'Lately we have new Fitna underway… With the forced evacuation [of Gaza] that was imposed by the Palestinian people, they [the Israelis] evacuated only a corner. [Israel] declared this as the final victory and, on the pretext of evacuating Gaza and establishing a Palestinian government, tried to put an end to the hopes of the Palestinians.

"'Today, [Israel] seeks, satanically and deceitfully, to gain control of the front of war. It is trying to influence the Palestinian groups in Palestine so as to preoccupy them with political issues and jobs – so that they relinquish the Palestinian cause that determines their destiny, and come into conflict with each other.

"'On the pretext of goodwill, they [Israel] intended, by evacuating the Gaza strip, to gain recognition of its corrupt regime by some Islamic states. I very much hope, and ask God, that the Palestinian people and the dear Palestinian groups will be wary of this Fitna.

"'The issue of Palestine is by no means over, and will end only when all of Palestine will have a government belonging to the Palestinian people. The refugees must return to their homes, and there must be a government that has come to power by the will of the [Palestinian] people. And, of course those [i.e. the Jews] who came to this country from far away to plunder it have no right to decide anything for the [Palestinian] people.

"'I hope that the Palestinians will maintain their wariness and intelligence, much as they have pursued their battles in the past 10 years. This will be a short period, and if we pass through it successfully, the process of the elimination of the Zionist regime will be smooth and simple.

"'I warn all the leaders of the Islamic world to be wary of Fitna: If someone is under the pressure of hegemonic power [i.e. the West] and understands that something is wrong, or he is naïve, or he is an egotist and his hedonism leads him to recognize the Zionist regime – he should know that he will burn in the fire of the Islamic Ummah [nation]…

"'The people who sit in closed rooms cannot decide on this matter. The Islamic people cannot allow this historical enemy to exist in the heart of the Islamic world.

"'Oh dear people, look at this global arena. By whom are we confronted? We have to understand the depth of the disgrace of the enemy, until our holy hatred expands continuously and strikes like a wave.'"
