Sorry - I meant Kerry!

businessweek.com

cnn.com

"The rising cost of gas takes center stage Tuesday in the 2004 race as President Bush unleashes a new TV spot that calls Sen. John Kerry "wacky" for backing a 50-cent gas tax."

Now we pay the Arabs and big oil twice that much, for no benefit.

When did Gore propose it?
Gore proposed a carbon tax in his book "Earth in the Balance" in 1993.

JCP, If we'd added that extra dollar when Gore proposed it, we might be beginning to drive on alternative fuels NOW.

When did Gore propose it? Why didn't he push for one back in 2000 when gas was cheap? Remember that rising fuel prices at the time forced Clinton to release some of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve because they were afraid the poor in the Northeast wouldn't be able to afford heating their homes.

Dems have been proposing higher taxes on gas for 20 years.....to no avail. As a consequence, our public transport is light years behind the Japanese and Europeans. So many bad public policy issues over the years are coming back around to bite us in the butt.
