I'm so happy for you and your family that those days are now behind you. I really don't understand how liberals think, but this author offers some ideas.

Nowadays "Democrat" and "Republican" are not so much different policy approaches as different personalities. Some Democrats, for example, wanted Iraq to be another Vietnam. Seriously wanted it — not because they wanted 50,000 Americans to die in a lost cause (that would be a ghoulish accusation), but for their own personal, private reasons. They wanted a new generation of mass rallies and peace marches and Woodstocks and summers of love. Some Democrats remember those times as the happiest of their lives. Others hadn't been born in 1969, but have heard the era described in such glowing, psychedelic colors that naturally they miss it vicariously. They wanted Iraq to be Vietnam, were sure it would be, and feel cheated that it isn't.
