true.. and 100 dollar bills can be 'hoarded'. or yen, or pesos etc, etc. to hoard just means saving a secret stash of money or other valuables. i suppose one could even hoard oats or cigarettes (or even tulips).

it's just a pejorative term the government used to make it easier to confiscate (steal) citizen's gold.
