I didn't say Carter was a great president, I said he was a great ex-president, but he was better than the rightwing would like us to think when he was in office.

His energy programs alone would have made the Iraq Wars completely unnecessary, and let's be honest, not only did he inherit a Middle East about to blow up and huge Vietnam debts to pay off, but he was very unlucky with the hostage rescue attempt, plus the Reaganites did a deal with the Iranians and cheated, afterwards shiping arms illegally to Iran as payback.

Also, as I said, Carter is our only truly christian recent president (Bush is a phony) and Carter's New South was the way the south should be, not the way it's become under Bush where the blacks get screwed and the region is sharply divided again. The GOP's southern strategy is definitely racist and harmful to our country.
