Bear Moved From Teton Village
June 1, 2006

localnews8.com

A black bear with a hankering for bird feed had to be captured near Teton Village and delivered to a new home.

The female bear was becoming too used to humans. She was spotted during the daytime hours raiding a contractor's dumpster. Usually bears only come out at dawn and dusk. Biologists decided it was time for her to move on.

"This is a sign she's losing her fear of humans as well as demonstrating more risk taking. She even climbed up one balcony to get to a bird feeder. We consider that a safety risk."

The female bear was released near Yellowstone National Park, in an area considered perfect habitat for a black bear where she can forage naturally there, as a bear should.
