If the American public doesn't have what it takes to win in Iraq they damned sure don't have what it takes to stick it out across a territory 20x larger and with 10x as many enemy civilians.

They won't have a choice. Just like we didn't have a choice against Japan and Germany.

You've lost contact with reality. Is support for the war stabilizing in the public?

No... it's you who is being delusional if you think everything will be "hunky-dory" if we just extract ourselves from Iraq and leave the region to its own devices.

Are Congress and the Executive branch putting together the laws and infrastructure that would be required to turn 5 or 10 million couch potatoes into IED fodder? No.

Ever hear of Selective Service? The Draft? It's been in effect for decades now, and if this country is forced to mobilize on the order of magnitude that it did in the 1940's, it will have the resources to do so.

But the whole goal should be to extend an ounce of prevention NOW, in order to prevent a pound of cure in the FUTURE.

But short-sighted people like you always prefer the pound of cure..

The only thing we need out of the ME is oil, and they have been willing to sell it to us for cash, no thanks to the US military.

It one thing for all of those oil money to go into the coffers of corrupt, self-serving, dictators and monarchs.

But doesn't it bother you, even a little, that we'd be purchasing oil and the money going to further indoctrinate and militarize the youth of the region??

It's just a tremendous wonder that someone supposedly of your age and experience continue to ignore the forest for the trees.
