It is just that we have been running a deficit that amounts to $1 billion a day. If that was paid directly to 10 million chronically unemployed to the tune of $100 a day, we would have an economy that would be booming according to any economic theory. Yet, we don't. Why is that?

You are assuming that we could do without much more important things, like all the budget special line items exemplified by the the $250M bridge to the alaskan island with 12 people on it, our alredy puny military, wars like the one in iraq, tax breaks to stressed oil companies, drug ligislaltion that prohibits competition, etc...
