Most of the prominent Democrats are socially and fiscally conservative as well. In the last primaries for e.g., only Kucinich and Sharpton could be called non-conservative. The rest - Kerry, Lieberman, Dean etc. are all quite conservative. If they appear to be liberal, it is because most of the Republicans are ultra-regressive.

This time around, Hillary Clinton is a social conservative as well while Feingold is the only one who can be called non-conservative (on social issues). Don't compare any of them with nutcase Republicans like Dumbya and (now) McCain. By Dumbya's standards, pretty much the entire country is liberal.
