Intel is likely looking at close to $1.5 billion if they sack all 16,000.

interesting... It occurred to me that intel might pull a rabbit out of its accounting hat as it would attempt to shift cost of the chip discounts to restructuring. Both are one time costs (one can hope that conroe would bring additional revenue later on) but one is harder to swallow than another

Just revised my eps contest entries. I'm the only one showing Intel with a loss, based on a writeoff of $600M. But Operating Income would be barely positive anyway. JMHO, and the 600M would not be for layoffs/asset sales -- probably too late for that to close before Q2 ends.
