I agree, but it is in some ways a self fulfilling prophesy that we are handing them. If people were demanding, and promoting positive change the media would have that to report about. Human and social energy is attractive. If all energy is focused on finding any old flaw with no energy focused on the good that can be accomplished, that is what attracts our attention and that is what banks the media. It encourages hopelessness; something you should be quite familiar with.
