45 states have acted to ban gay marriage By The Associated Press Mon Jun 5, 6:54 PM ET news.yahoo.com Forty-five states have acted to define traditional marriage in ways that would ban same-sex marriage. Nineteen states have constitutional amendments: Alaska, Arkansas, Georgia, Hawaii, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas and Utah. Twenty-six states have enacted statutes but not constitutional amendments: Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
