"I give you the Iranian President and his quest to acquire nuclear weapons, his holy grail as it were, as the perfect example. When that happens do you think his response will be to sit down and negotiate with Israel as equals ?"

Yes, but he won't be equal, because Israel will have hundreds more bombs than he will, and their friends the Americans will have thousands. And he'll know that if he uses his paltry bomb or bombs on Israel, Israel and the US will extinguish Iran forever.

But Israel and the US will no longer be able to bully him with threats of invasion, because he'll have joined the club

Two points...you can't lump all issues together. The Iranian issue is very different than the Lebonese issue which is different than the Palestinian issue (although the latter two are closer) Why don't you read this atimes.com or at least its first part and then get back to me on that.

For the second part see my next post.

A very important point has been lost on most people with regards to Ahamadinejad's anti-Israel rhetoric. He has been very successfully playing the Arab street. He chooses his speech in such a way that not only the content appeals to the Arab street, but that its translation works well into Arabic as well. The Arab regimes are terrified of this; what used to be the mantle of firebreathing Arab politicians has now been claimed by a non-Arab Shia. There is tremendous pressure on them join in.

As a result of this tactic by Ahamdinejad, several Arab regimes in the Persian Gulf have stated that their regimes will not survive a US confrontation with Iran. In other words they are in no uncertain terms telling their buddies in Washington, should US attack a country who is perceived as the staunchest supporter of single most crucial Arab cause, the Pal-Israel issue, the Persian Gulf regimes will either have to join in support of Iran or face riots and possible revolutions. This point is lost on most people inside and outside of Iran.

When it comes to the nuclear issue, you take it for granted that they are after nuke for a war of conquest. However you have even less evidence for this than there was for Saddam and WMDs...it is an article of faith with and so I see little logical debate can resolve.
