I don't think anybody really expected the buildings to come down.

According to a videotape of Osama bin Laden, he didn't expect it.

The fact that the buildings did fall down is, in large part, what spurs the tinfoil hat crowd.

The odd thing is that as I watched it from Chicago, I knew they would come down, once the second plane hit and I realized how big a plane (with fuel) was causing the fire. I'm also amazed they didn't figure this out. All buildings are fire proofed with a temperature and time rating. It doesn't take much to fail with that kind of load above, and once it starts it all goes, right now.
