Hard right now buried in nativism, homophobia, estate tax giveaways. We are now in the death throws of what once was Ronald Reagans big tent republican party. Dems will take the house and most likely the presidency. You and Ann Coulter and Lindy Bill et al can yelp all you want as you move to permanent minority status. And none of this comes from a guy who is pro-illegal immigration, pro gay marriage and pro taxation. You folks are crossing a line that will turn the middle against you. A moderate democratic message cant lose going forward given this penchant for conservative self destruction. You guys are no different than the hard left in refusing to compromise on ideological matters. Suicide by any other name.....

When I read something like this my reply is WHATS THE ALTERNATIVE? Does ANYONE actually THINK we could LOGISTICALLY deport 12 million people? My feeling is nearly the opposite of that writer. My feeling Bush is FOOLING the illegals into thinking they will get something for nothing. When, in fact, if we CRACK DOWN HARD on employers hiring illegals they will likely be FORCED to go back home on their own. One might say, why not just promote the latter move, my answer is its NOT PASSABLE in the Senate, so sugar coat it like above and maybe it gets passed, meanwhile STRENGTHEN THE BORDER no matter what. jdn

Do you think the courts will give a retroactive punishment the thumbs up?

requires that illegals pay huge [newly implemented] fines

And do you trust the Executive to enforce the new penalties when they refuese to enforce the current ones?

This bill if signed would usher in the largest expansion of the welfare state in 30 years. Some "radical right winger" Bush is.
