If Dean can try to exploit gay marriage politically, why can't Bush? Dean appeared on the 700 Club not too long ago and falsely claimed the Dem platform was "marriage is between a man and a woman". That wasn't true and he apologized to gay leaders after the fact. But clearly, Dean was trying to do what Bush is accused of doing - though when Bush does it he isn't back-stabbing his base.

The first example came in the the context of President Bush's current push for a constitutional amendment that would prohibit gay marriage. The liberal mantra on his initiative, as exemplified by Ann Curry's performance on yesterday's Today, is that this is a cynical political ploy and a waste of time when there are myriad 'real' issues out there to be addressed.
