I'm all in favor of NGOs but not letting them have power over me.

That's the problem with the UN. They're really an NGO but they want to pretend that they have the right to order people around.

Power comes, first, from the barrel of a gun, and second, from the ballotbox.

Neither of which apply to the UN.

If the day ever comes when countries like Somalia and Sudan (or even France!) can order me around -- that will be a bad day.

You can't change human nature. Human nature won't be any different in a few hundred years than it is today, and has been for as long as there have been human beings.

Mq thinks human beings will change. He also believes in pie in the sky!

The agency I spent my career in at one time prided itself at being highly decentralized yet pursuant of a universally understood objective. For the first half of my career it followed that ethic quite successfully, and I still believe it was the best agency in government.

Things started to fall apart after that. It tried to be all things to all people, a sure path to failure. It bent with the wind.

I can see world government when we start to colonize Mars. It might make sense there.
