Re: That benchmark stunt cost them a couple of billion in profit alone.

LOL! A couple million might be a bit of an understatement, but much closer to the truth. Conroe's performance would have been no secret to OEMs who would have received samples regardless of whether benchmarks were made public. At least a couple leaked samples would have shown up at XtremeSystems or elsewhere for viewing by the general public. And of course the more profit Intel loses now due to delayed computer purchases, the more they will gain after the Conroe launch.

Dear Pete,

re >> Just wait about five weeks for the Q2 CCs. You will see just how big a pickle Intel is in.

I'll wait. In the meantime, I don't think it is reasonable to expect that AMD can sell all of its production ahead of Intel's.

If that was true, AMD's sales would be dominated by Athlons at prices between $150-$250, and not Semprons at $70. ASP would be well over $100. But it isn't.

This means to me that AMD cannot sell all the Athlons it can make (if it were to devote more capacity to that), and for that reason it allocates capacity to semprons which I assume bring in less profit.

By the way, the top 3 selling CPU's at Tiger Direct are Pentiums the next 4 are Athlons.
